Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. ramps up demand response program in response to the loss of Astoria Generation Plant in New York City
ENERGY CURTAILMENT SPECIALISTS, INC. (ECS), North America's premier demand response provider for over a decade, announced that it is allocating up to $10 million over the next three months to businesses located in the Con Edison service territory to fund demand response initiatives. This announcement comes on the heels of the recent news that a 387 megawatt Astoria Generation Plant will be taken offline prior to the upcoming summer. The loss of the Astoria Plant will decrease the available capacity in New York City and, in turn, cause capacity prices to rise dramatically. While the increased capacity prices will mean higher overall electricity rates to businesses, it also means that there are more dollars available to those businesses that choose to participate in ECS' demand response programs. As the largest demand response provider in New York, ECS is actively responding by offering aggressive payments to businesses that enroll in the program, including a $2,000 per MW upfront bonus payment to new customers that enroll by April 1st.
ECS' PowerPay program is designed to reduce demands on New York's electric grid during times of grid instability, thus helping to prevent brownouts and blackouts. Con Edison electricity consumers are paid by ECS' PowerPay demand response programs to stand ready as a last line of defense to these rare but dangerous electric reliability crisis situations. Clients enrolled in ECS' free demand response program will receive advanced notification of issues with the electric grid and will have the ability to gain thousands in extra revenue. Companies will earn payment via check for standing by--known as a capacity payment--and for actual electricity reduced (energy payment). When capacity payments are higher, energy users earn more money through demand response.
"As always, we make it simple to enroll with our one-page enrollment form; no small print or contingencies," remarks Jim Korczykowski, President and Chief Executive Officer of ECS. "ECS brings you the best option for demand response. There are absolutely no risks and no out-of-pocket expenses to participants. The PowerPay program is a win-win."
