ECS’ PowerPay! Demand Response Program is unique in that it provides several types of payments to the participating business – with NO COST. The money only flows one way – from ECS to you, not vice versa. The types of payments are:
- Base capacity payment – This is the largest payment and is paid for your standing by if and when a reduction event is called. You are essentially just like a power plant sitting by waiting to help the electric grid if and when it is needed
- Energy Payment – You are paid for the energy (electric) you reduce during reduction events in the same manner as a power plant supplying electricity to the grid
- Signing Bonus – You will receive a signing bonus payment directly from ECS once enrolled in the program. This is subject to deadlines, so please check with a PowerPay! representative for those deadlines
- Performance Bonus – If you reduce your electricity and meet your commitment level, ECS will pay you a significant performance bonus
- Displaced Energy Savings – You receive 100% of all savings achieved by not using your reduced electricity during the event hours, with ECS taking 0%
Payments are made by check or wire directly from ECS to your business. You can use the money as you wish – it is not merely a credit to your electric bill
What is Demand Response?
On rare occasions the electric grid experiences a high degree of stress (usually in extremely hot weather). In order to reduce the strain on the grid, demand response programs have been developed by utilities and grid operators.
Businesses enrolled in the demand response program PowerPay! for PG&E can earn tens of thousands of dollars annually while simultaneously benefiting their community and the electric grid. PowerPay! for PG&E is administered by Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), who has had a direct contract with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) since 2007.
